Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Soft tissue mobilization has been used to treat a number of diagnoses dealing with the body’s muscles, fascia and other tissues. IASTM is another form of this process, but it utilizes instruments specially designed for treatment of soft tissue disorders.

Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down using these tools which allows for a more full functional restoration to occur. This occurs by the tools unique design which give the clinician the ability to locate impaired areas through sound waves and then appropriately treat with the proper amount of pressure.

IASTM can be uncomfortable and cause some adverse symptoms such as increased tenderness and bruising. It allows the body to undergo the inflammation process to speed the healing process up. This process is not right for all patients, especially those on blood thinners and with systemic pathologies that may be contraindicated.
