Mane Naturopathic and Acupuncture

Naturopathic medicine blends centuries-old natural therapies with current advances in the study of health and human systems. Naturopathic medicine emphasizes whole-person wellness. Treatment methods used are tailored to the client and emphasize prevention and self-care through diet, life-style modification, supplementation, botanical medicine and hydrotherapy. In addition to providing naturopathic medicine options for Homer, Dr. Mane also provides skilled, gentle and compassionate Chinese medicine and acupuncture interventions.

Classical Chinese medicine is complementary to naturopathic medicine and assists the body in moving from illness or disharmony back to health and balance. Chinese medicine is an elegant form of medicine that has roots that go back over 3000 years. Both Chinese medicine and naturopathic medicine are in tune with nature and the cycles of life. Chinese medicine is largely based on the idea that disruption of the cyclic flow of energy results in illness.

Both healthcare methods focus on identifying and addressing underlying cause of disease, not merely moderating the symptom. In both approaches, physical, emotional, environmental and life-style factors are considered as possible contributors to a client’s wellness or lack thereof.

Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile, disposable needles that are gently inserted at carefully selected points on the body. The sensation that results, if any,  is usually a brief pin prick with occasional tingling or dull ache followed by a feeling of warmth, energy and deep relaxation. The goal of this treatment is to adjust the flow of energy in the body, thereby minimizing energetic imbalances. Dr. Mane may also use other methods to aid in energy balancing such as acupressure (treating acupuncture points with finger pressure instead of needles), heat, and cupping.

Dr. Mane and the staff at Homer Physical Therapy work collaboratively upon client request.  We also enjoy considerable learning and sharing of ideas between the two businesses.
